Who can vote?

In order to vote you must be registered in the electoral roll and either be:

  • A Norwegian citizen who turns 18 or more years of age in 2023, and is or has been a registered resident.
  • A citizen of Denmark, Finland, Island, Sweden or the Faroe Islands who turns 18 or more years of age in 2023, and is a registered resident no later than June 30th, 2023.
  • A foreign citizen who turns 18 or more years of age in 2023, and has been a registered resident for a minimum of three years before election day (since September 30th, 2020).

Are you registered in the electoral roll?

The electoral roll is an overview of who has the right to vote in a municipality. If you are resident in Norway you are automatically registered on the electoral roll in the municipality in which you are registered in the Central Population Register as resident on June 30th, 2023.

  • You can vote in advance in any municipality; however, if you intend to vote on election day you must do so at a polling station in the municipality in which you are registered on the electoral roll.
